The list of the top 500 growth champions lists companies that achieved an exceptionally high rate of annual growth in sales in 2015 compared to 2012. Privately owned and listed companies were also considered. These operate independently, have no subsidiaries, are based in Germany and had sales of at least 100,000 euro in 2012, and at least 1.8 million euro in 2015. Out of more than 1.9 million entries in the commercial register, Statista filtered out thousands of companies with higher than average growth. 12,500 were invited to apply for the title of growth champion 2017 – and further companies were encouraged to submit applications online and via advertisements. In addition to general information about the company, candidates also had to confirm their sales figures in writing via an authorised person.
