arivis receives Microsoft Life Science Innovation Award 2014

Arivis won one of the most prestigious awards in the life science sector – the Microsoft Life Sciences Innovation Award. With that award Microsoft honors pharmaceutical, biotechnology, clinical resource organizations, and medical device companies that are leading the charge in scientific collaboration and innovation. Together with the Harvard Center for Biological Imaging (HBCI) and Carl Zeiss Microscopy arivis won the award for a solution for stitching, visualizing, sharing and analyzing the neuronal connections inside a mammalian brain. To quote Microsoft: “The Harvard Center for Biological Imaging (HCBI), an imaging facility that specializes in all modalities of light microscopy teamed up with arivis, a software company for biomedical 3D+ big imaging and product life cycle compliance management, to develop an imaging platform. It provides scientists with unique applications to manage, visualize, share, and analyze datasets of unlimited size. Together, these components are helping scientists map mammalian brains and understand neuronal diseases such as Alzheimer’s . . . Congratulations to the winning companies, as well as to all those that entered. By taking advantage of today’s innovative technologies to bring therapeutic breakthroughs to the market faster at lower costs, you are helping to move medicine forward and enhance patients’ quality of life.”

The Director of Imaging, Douglas Richardson,Phd says:

“Arivis software is the only application available to stitch and visualize these amounts of data in reasonable time. Stitching of a 1 TB dataset lasts about 1-2 hours, visualization can be done completely interactively on a normal desktop PC. So, the combination of Light Sheet Microscopy and arivis Software gives us a completely new tool for understanding the connectome of the mammalian nervous system. This will lead us to a breakthrough in neuronal Sciences“
