I have a problem using the arivis products. where can I find technical support?
Concerning all problems regarding the use of our products, our support department is the one to adress.

Is arivis software protected against unauthorized copying?
Basically, at arivis we consider our customers as partners, interested in the further existence of our company and therefore behaving according to the conditions of the licencing contract.

In order to secure the use of arivis achievements in development in accordance with our ideas, we anyhow decided to apply appropiate measures to prevent unauthorised copying of our software. In case of the arivis Browser, we apply a safety lock based on the product HASP HL by Aladdin Knowledge Systems. This solution uses USB-tokens, that facilitate differenciated distribution of users rights by the producer of the software.

In any case, it is ensured that the original purpose of the software is not limited or excessively aggravated by the protective measures.

What is the cost of the arivis Browser?
Because of the complexity of most applicational cases we decided against publishing a fixed pricelist. Apart from that, many applicational cases show project character, since we offer solutions, not colorful CD-jewelcases.

If you are interested in our products, please contact our sales department. Together we will make up a price both sides can live with.

What is the cost of the arivis Viewer?
The arivis Viewer is provided for Windows, MacOS and Linux completely free of charge. Thus it works only with our highly optimized data format, it is not available by download link but only on request.

For user interface adaptations, for instance for visualizing your Corporate Identity, please contact our support division.

What are the license conditions of the arivis ImageCore?
Especially while licensing application critical libraries we think it is important to customize license agreements special to the licensee. Of course, the license design depends on many different factors: How many products are sold by the licensee? How much do these products cost? Is it possible to extract the ImageCore functionality to a special module? How much assistance needs the licensee in optimizing his application while embedding the ImageCore? These are only some of the important questions. Therefore, any license agreement is debated with the potential very individual.

Which system requirements have to be fulfilled when you want to use the arivis Browser?
As a matter of principle this depends of the tasks that shall be fulfilled by the system. If you only want to use the basic system, you need a PC with at least Windows NT/95.

For the use of very large datasets, it is necessary, that you are able to save the data physically. You can save them on you local harddisk, but also on a server system, that is connected via a fast local network.
For analyzing methods that require a lot of calculation, e.g. linear unmixing or classification of objects, it would be wise, to use a fast PC, to cut the time used for analysis short.

For 3D-visualization of data, the PC should have a graphic card that supports OpenGL. Since the preparation of visualization requires a lot of operations carried out in the main memory, this should not be too small.

Which operating systems are supported by the arivis Browser?
The arivis Browser is an application especially designed for Windows. It has been tested on Windows NT, 2000 and XP, but it should also work with Windows 95/98/ME (no responsibiliy taken for the correctness of this information).

Because of the growing importance of alternative operating systems we are currently busy porting our solutions to platform independent basic technologies. Thus, there will be shortly a platform independent viewer for datasets in the Single Image Stack (SIS) format of the arivis Browser.

Platform independence will be a matter of principle for all our future developments. This, however, does not exclude that there will be some expansions or plug-ins for only certain platforms for reasons of performance or licensing.

I cannot find any plug-ins that suit my wishes. Will I thus not be able to use the arivis Browser?
Please contact our development department. We are constantly looking for new, interesting applications. Together we will certainly find a solution for your specific problem.

If there is no solution „out of the box“, we will try together with you to develop a solution, according to our personnel means.

Is there a size limitation for the data usable with the arivis Browser/arivis Viewer/arivis ImageCore?
The only limitation for the size of data is the available space on your hard disk storage.

Since the movements on the data stack and as many operations as possible shall be carried out in real time, data are not compressed. Thus, a dataset with 50 planes and 3 spectral channels, at a size of 5120x5120 pixel per plane, covers approximately 3.7 gigabyte on your harddisk. The application itself does not set any limit for the size of the datasets, that can be exceeded realistically. The largest real data set we worked on was about 200GB in size. And there were no problems handling this data set at all.

Are all operations on the data in the arivis Browser are carried out in real time?
One of the most important paradigmes of the arivis Browser is, that as many operations as possible are carried out immediately, i.e. without measurable or noticeable delay. Unfortunately, this is not possible for all operations.

Operators on data are distinguished between effects and filters. Effects include changes of color settings or the use of annotations on the data. Effects are always carried out in real time. Filter, on the other hand, cannot always be carried out in real time. For instance, the global segmentation of a large dataset can take several minutes, since every single of possibly billions of pixels has to be handled separately. The preparation of the data for 3D-visualization may also require a short waiting period.
