In the context of the Exzellenzinitiative Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, arivis and the Neurodegeneration Research Lab (NRL) of Prof. Jens Pahnke at the University of Rostock receive a research funding.

The funded projects aims at developing a platform for the 3D quantification of tissue structures in digital microscopy using high solution (230 nm) slide scans. In order to establish evaluation routines for the 3D quantification, the NRL creates digital slice series of mice brains in full resolution.
Using the arivis Bowser, the two-dimensional single slices, each with a size of up to 50 Gbytes, are organised into a whole data set and thus result in a three-dimensional image of the sliced areas of the brain. It is now possible to apply novel detection and analysis methods to the data set.
These novel methods, enabled by the arivis Browser, now allow for the first time to find and analyze effectively small abnormal mutations in high resolution microscopy preparations of a large organ area.

Together with the possibility to analyze a large number of data sets, this interdisciplinary platform provides novel methods and options in the fields of research and diagnostics for the evaluation of digital microscopy preparations in full resolution.
