Summary

The arivis WebView is our modulary built application for visualizing and interactive processing of very large image data at the Internet/ Intranet. Multichannel image data of almost unlimited size and with a random number of planes can now be visualized and processed with a common web browser without the need to install additional software or web browser plugins.

The arivis WebView can broadly and flexibly be used: Visualization, navigation, smooth zoom, annotations, and web presentation of entire digital slides in telepathology, virtual microscopic preparations in histology and anatomy, highest resolution panorama pictures in tourism marketing, and georeferenced raster image data in geoinformatic systems.

Technology und Flexibility

The base technology used by the arivis WebView is the arivis ImageCore, that stores and manages image data in an arivis-specific data format (*.sis). The arivis ImageCore is integrated into the web application server and responable for delivering the image tiles.

Our technology provides access to image data of almost unlimited size on the internet and allows the user to easily view and process that data. For accessing arivis WebView, you simply need an internet connection and a standard web browser (tested with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Opera); even with a narrowband connection you have access to the image data in the arivis WebView without any loss of performance.

arivis WebView, arivis Browser and arivis Vision 4D work with a unique data format which ensures mutual data processing without data convertions or additional adaptions.

Both the Server and the client implementation of the arivis WebView have a modular format. That is why the modules can be easily extended and adapted to specific scenarios according to the respective application or costumer requirements.

Applications

The arivis WebView is perfectly adapted for providing the user with online access to image data of any origin, size, and in highest resolution, which can be visualized, processed, analyzed, and presented on the web.

Telepathology

  • visualization and annotation of highest-resolution pathological-histological digital slides
  • web presentation allowing interactive assessment during conferences or workshops
  • digital Slide (1,5 GB) in the arivis WebView

Histology and microscopical anatomy

  • visualization and full annotation of histological, virtually microscopable preparations
  • applying didactic teaching contents for university e-learning platforms (e.g. histology classes)
  • mirax@netbase: e-learning teaching platform for university teaching institutions in anatomy (in cooperation with Net-Base e.K.)

Meteorology

  • interactive real-time visualization on the internet
  • joined presentation of meteorological and geo-topographic data
  • WetterMaps: comfortable platform for the visualization of (live) weather data in Europe (for WetterOnline GmbH)

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • visualization of high-resolution georeferenced raster image data from satellite space exploration
  • Solution for GIS data

Tourism marketing

  • navigation and zoom into the smallest detail of high-resolution panorama photos
  • Karwendelgebirge (2,7 GB) in the arivis WebView (in cooperation with the German Aerospace Center)

Visualization and navigation

Visualize, navigate and zoom your image data without waiting time, even when working with very large image data – the arivis WebView makes it possible.
The arivis WebView convinces with a intuitive and user-friendly interface. A navigator window provides an overview of the whole image while a position rectangle shows the position of the visible image region. In both the navigation and the image detail window, an active navigation is possible. With the arivis WebView you have the option to either use predefined zoom levels or the zoom tool for free and smooth zoom.

Annotation possibilities

In order to process your image data, arivis provides extensive annotation possibilities which can be applied on your image planes using different shapes and colors. After having created the annotations, they can be filtered and analyzed after different criteria.
The arivis WebView makes it possible that several users have access to one and the same image file to use the functionality of annotations. That means that annotations can for example be used to cooperatively mark, measure or edit Regions of Interest (ROIs) by several users.

Using open standards

The whole client functionality is implemented without any proprietary software products (e.g. Adobe Flash). The communication between the server and client as well as the implementation of the server are based on open standards like XML and Javascript
