Is arivis software protected against unauthorized copying?
Basically, we from arivis consider our customers as partners who are interested in the further existence of our company and therefore behave according to the conditions of the licensing contract.
In order to prevent any unauthorized copying and use of arivis development achievements, however, we decided to apply appropriate measures.
Concerning arivis Browser, we apply a safety lock based on the product HASP HL by Aladdin Knowledge Systems.
This solution uses USB-tokens, that facilitate a differentiated distribution of user rights by the software producer.
In any case, it is ensured that the protective measures do not limit or excessively aggravate the original purpose of the software.

What does the arivis Browser cost?
Since most use cases show a high complexity, we decided against quoting a fixed price list. Apart from that, many use cases are treated as projects for which we find solutions instead of offering colorful CD-jewel cases.
If you are interested in our products, please contact our sales department .
Together we decide on a pricing that satisfies both sides.

What does the arivis Viewer cost and where can I purchase it?
The arivis Viewer is provided completely free of charge for Windows, MacOS and Linux. As it only works with our highly optimized data format, it cannot be downloaded but is available on request.
To perform any user interface adaptations, for instance when visualizing your Corporate Identity, please contact our sales department.

What are the license conditions of the arivis ImageCore?
Especially when licensing application critical libraries, we think it is important to customize license agreements adapted for the licensee. That is because licensing depends on many different factors: How many products are sold by the concessionnaire? How much do these products cost? Is it possible to embed the ImageCore functionality in a special module? How much assistance does the licensee need in order to optimize his application while embedding the ImageCore? These are only a few important questions that might appear. Therefore, any license agreement is discussed individually with the costumer.

Which system requirements have to be fulfilled when you want to use the arivis Browser?
Principally, this depends on the tasks that are to be carried out by the system. If you only want to use the basic system, you need a PC with Windows NT/ Windows 95 at least.
For the use of very large datasets, it is necessary that you are able to save the data physically. You can save them on you local hard disk as well as on a server system, that is connected with you via a fast local network.
For analysis methods that require a high calculation effort, e.g. linear unmixing or classification of objects, it would be wise to use a fast PC to reduce the amount of time required for analysis operations.
For the 4D-visualization of data, your PC should have a graphics card that supports OpenGL. Preparation of visualization requires that a lot of operations are carried out in the main memory. For high rendering quality of complex image data, a sufficient main memory (≥2 GB) is proposed.

Which operating systems are supported by the arivis Browser?
The arivis Browser is an application especially designed for Windows.
It has been tested on Windows NT, 2000 and XP, Vista, and Windows 7, but it should also work with Windows 95/98/ME (subject to change).
Because of the growing importance of alternative operating systems we are currently working on porting our solutions to platform independent basic technologies.
Thus, there will shortly be a platform independent viewer for datasets in the Single Image Stack (SIS) format of the arivis Browser.
Platform independence will be a principal feature for all our future developments.
This, however, does not eliminate the possibility of some expansions or plug-ins for only certain platforms due to reasons of performance or licensing.

I cannot find any plug-ins that suit my wishes. Will I thus not be able to use the arivis Browser?
Please contact our support department.
If there is no “out of the box“ solution, together with you we will try to develop a solution.

Is there a size limitation for the data usable with the arivis Browser/arivis Viewer/arivis ImageCore?
The only size limitation for your data is the available space on your hard disk storage.
Since navigating within the image data and analysis operations shall be carried out in real time, data is not compressed. Thus, a dataset with 50 planes and 3 spectral channels, at a size of 5120 x 5120 pixels per plane, covers approximately 3.7 GByte on your hard disk. The application itself does not set any limit for the size of the data sets that can be exceeded realistically. The largest real data set we have worked on so far was about 450 GByte in size, and there weren’t any problems handling this data set at all.

Can all operations on the data in the arivis Browser are carried out in real time?
One of the most important features of the arivis Browser is that as many operations as possible are carried out immediately, i.e. without measurable or noticeable delay. Unfortunately, this is not possible for all operations.
When working with operators on data, we basically distinguish between effects and filters. Effects include for example changes of color settings or the use of annotations on the data. Effects are always carried out in real time. Filters, on the other hand, cannot always be carried out in real time. The global segmentation of a large dataset, for instance, can take several minutes for every single of potentially billions of pixels has to be handled separately. The preparation of the data for 4D-visualization may also require a short waiting period.
