Foundation of the German-Russian research laboratory USELAB

arivis browser is first choice for USELAB

From September 13 to September 14, 2011, the foundation of USELAB, the German-Russian research lab „Experimental Laboratory for Aquatic Ecology“, was officially celebrated. The celebration was an excellent platform to exchange new and surprising research findings.
USELAB is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research BMBF and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
It assembles scientists from four institutes who exchange population-ecological findings about plankton communities in the aquatic eco-system of the Baltic Sea, the Earth's largest brackish water deposit.

• Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (Dr. L. Postel)
• Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Science (Dr. I.V. Telesh)

The spatial separation does not hinder the German and Russian researchers to get together and analyse plankton samples.

They use the arivis Browser which is the USELAB's first choice when it comes to analysis tasks. Together with the biologists, USELAB developed and implemented specific plugins and analysis methods which enable scientists from both countries to acquire, store, analyze and share visual information of a living sample using arivis Browser.

USELAB and arivis are currently planning on other projects in regard to distant learning. It shouldn't take long until the results are published and employed in further research.
